To Make a Long Story Short… 2
“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen” (Acts 17:6-7).
Have you ever heard the expression “To Make a Long Story Short…”? Usually this phrase conveys an effort to condense or consolidate a story to highlight the main points and omit most of the details. The scripture above relays that during the life of Jesus upon the earth, His story was so massive that…”even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written.”
Well, in reference to Jesus surrounding the way Christians commemoratively celebrate Christmas, the excerpts of the story below narrated in Matthew tells it all! Jesus: His birth, His name, and His mission! Focus on Jesus and “stick to the story,” not only during this Christmas season, but consistently during your Christian walk. Biblically, Jesus is partly saying, “That’s the story of my life”! Glorify God and meditate on His story continually, as concisely relayed here:
“Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS” (Matthew 1:18-25).
When you get down to the point, even of much of what is chronicled in the entire Bible, “to make a long story short,” right down to the bottom line, we know “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” So in another respect, He was born to “save” you, and you were born again to “serve” Him, and to one day live eternally in Heaven. And, to make a long story short…this is how to make a short life long!
